Returning Students

If you have used accommodations at Heartland before, Welcome Back! Each semester, returning students need to complete a few quick steps to stay connected with SAAS and keep accommodations active.

Renew Your Accommodations

Your accommodations do not automatically carry over each term. Log in to Accommodate, select the courses you are taking, and submit your renewal request. Once approved, your semester accommodation notification will be sent to you and your instructors. Students should discuss with their instructors to talk about how accommodations will work in their class.

Navigate Accommodate

Accommodate is your hub for all things accessibility. You can:

  • View and download accommodation letters
  • Request note takers or interpreters
  • Request alternative formats
  • Upload updated documentation

If you need help finding anything, SAAS staff can walk you through it.

Schedule Any Needed Appointments

Returning students may meet with SAAS for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Updating or adjusting accommodations
  • Navigating classroom challenges
  • Getting support with self-advocacy or communication
  • Technology training or testing support

Appointments can be scheduled directly through Navigate, by email, or by calling the SAAS office.

Schedule Through Navigate

  1. Log in to Navigate through myHeartland or the Navigate Student app.

Requests

Submit Alternative Format Requests (if needed)

If you require materials in accessible formats, such as audio, large print, or accessible PDFs, submit your requests as early as possible through Accommodate. Upload your syllabus and specify the format you need, so SAAS can begin preparing your materials.

Request a Notetaker or Interpreter

If you use note-taking support, ASL interpreting, or CART captioning, log in to Accommodate and submit your request und Supplemental Requests for each class. SAAS will coordinate the services and may reach out for additional questions if needed. You will be notified once arrangements are in place.

Reach Out If Anything Changes

Your needs can evolve throughout your time at Heartland. If you are experiencing new barriers, changing courses, or need additional support, contact SAAS at any time. We are here to help you navigate your semester with confidence.
