Computer Lab & Printing

All users of the computer lab are expected to adhere to the Academic Support Center Guidelines

Students

  • Currently enrolled students can log in with their Heartland credentials.
  • Printing is free but limited to 50 pages per job. (No limit on the number of jobs.)
  • Wifi printing is available (link to instructions).
  • Assistance is available from staff at the Library desk.
  • Specialized software is installed on various computers.  Ask at the Library desk for specifics.

Alumni

  • Former students can log in with their previous Heartland credentials.
  • To print, however, alumni need to be logged in by Library desk staff.
  • Printing is free but limited to 25 pages a day.

Community Users

  • Residents of District 540 who are not enrolled and are age 16 and older can use the computer lab by obtaining a Community User number at the Library desk.
  • Community Users can use the designated computers for one two-hour session per day.
  • Printing is free but limited to 25 pages a day.

 

IDs

Visit the library during business hours, email a request for an ID, or stop by the Lincoln or Pontiac campuses to obtain your student or employee ID.

For the Normal, Lincoln, and Pontiac campuses, make sure you bring:

  • your HCC student (or employee) ID number
  • a photo ID  (see instructions below for an email request)
With a student/employee ID, you can: 
  • check out library materials from HCC and 125 academic libraries across the state 
  • ride the Bloomington-Normal Public Transit System for free 
  • use the Fitness & Recreation Center 
  • enjoy discounts at various locations in the community

If you cannot come to campus, library staff can make new student/employee IDs and send them in the mail.  If you would like a student ID made and sent to you, please email the following information to ethan.walter@heartland.edu:

  • Your student (or employee) ID number
  • Your address
  • A photo of yourself (head and shoulders only; nothing obscuring your face)
  • A photo of another ID that has your picture and name (drivers license, passport, etc.) 

IDs are issued to currently enrolled students and are valid as long as students remain enrolled.

Archives

Dr. Vernon A. "Art" Adams Archives

The mission of the Dr. Vernon A. "Art" Adams Archives is to identify, collect, organize, preserve, and make available selected Heartland Community College documents of enduring historical value.

The primary purpose for collecting such records is to document the history of Heartland Community College and in particular to provide documentation of its teaching and learning; the activities of its diverse student body; and its role in the community.

The archives is located in the Library in SCB 1201 and is available to researchers, students and the public by appointment.

Confidentiality and Statement on Intellectual Freedom and Copyright

In accordance with Illinois law, all library records relating to an individual patron and his/her use of the library and its resources are  confidential. These records may be consulted and used by library staff in the course of carrying out library operations but will not be  disclosed to others except upon the request or consent of the library user, or pursuant to subpoena, court order, or otherwise as required  by law. Such disclosure may be made only by the Library Director in consultation with appropriate College authorities.

Statement on Intellectual Freedom and Copyright 

Heartland Community College Library supports the American Library Association's Freedom to Read statement Library Bill of Rights, Intellectual Freedom Principles for Academic Libraries and its statement on the Freedom to View. The Heartland Community College Library  complies with all provisions of U.S. Copyright Law (17 U.S.C.) and its amendments. The Library supports the Fair Use section of the Copyright  Law (17 U.S.C. 107) which permits and protects citizens' rights to reproduce and make use of copyrighted works for the purposes of  teaching, scholarship and research.

Academic Support Center Conduct Guidelines

All patrons of the Heartland Community College Academic Support Center, whether students, guests, or community users, are expected to  abide by basic rules of civility, respect and courtesy. To ensure a pleasant and productive environment for study and research for all users,  the following guidelines have been established. 

Guidelines 

  • Access to HCC service areas is a privilege, not a right. 
  • Patrons will refrain from actions that are not conducive to an academic environment. 
  • Patrons will refrain from disruptive use of cell phones or other electronic devices within service areas. 
  • Patrons will limit the consumption of food in the ASC and will maintain cleanliness in any areas they use. 
  • Young children are not to be left unattended and must be in line of sight of a parent, guardian, or accompanying adult. 
  • Loud, boisterous or disruptive behavior will not be permitted. 
  • Patrons will not physically, verbally, or with gestures threaten, abuse, or assault another person. 
  • Patrons will not leave personal items unattended. Heartland is not responsible for lost or stolen items. 
  • Patrons will adhere to the separate rules and guidelines of each service area. 
  • Administrators, faculty, and staff are fully authorized to interpret and apply these guidelines as each situation warrants. 

Violations 

  • Anyone who violates these guidelines will be informed and asked to stop the improper conduct and/or leave.  
  • Patrons must show identification when requested to do so by any staff.  
  • HCC Public Safety will be called when necessary.  
  • Continued violation of these guidelines may result in permanent expulsion from the ASC.

The physical library is open Monday-Saturday. We are also available virtually through chat, email, and research appointments. See regular & holiday hours, including upcoming closings, below:
