The Department of Public Safety maintains a 24/7 security presence on the Normal campus.  Our Public Safety Officers are certified Campus Protection Officers by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.  They are also trained in CPR/AED/First Aid/Narcan, Stop-the Bleed, Mental Health First Aid, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Incident Command System, and Response to Bombing Incidents.  While on patrol officers carry life-saving first aid equipment in a red sling-bag.

Behavior Intervention

  • If anyone’s health and safety are in immediate danger, call 911. 

The Behavior Intervention Team is the College’s required Threat Assessment Team which reviews reports of alarming or aberrant behavior.

The team does not replace law enforcement or mental health professionals, but focuses on assisting a person who might be on a pathway to violence.  The below resources may serve as a reference:
