Follow the steps below to get started and begin exploring career opportunities, just for you! 

  • Step #1: Login to Handshake

    • Click Create Handshake Account button below and select “HCC Single Sign On”. Enter your HCC student login credentials.
    • Create Handshake Account

  • Step #2: Upload Documents

    • You’ll likely want to have a public resume available in Handshake for employers and the Career Center staff to see. Need help with your resume? Schedule an appointment with the Career Center staff on Navigate!

  • Step #3: Fill out your Profile

    • Some of your information will already be in your Handshake profile (this information has been provided by the IT department). Check to make sure all pre-loaded information is correct. If you find any errors, contact the Career Center to get it corrected.

  • Step #4: Explore Career Opportunities

    • Use the top menu bar and filters to explore companies, events, and jobs you’re interested in learning more about. Apply for jobs and internships that align with your skills, values, and passions.

  • Step #5: Fly High Hawks!

    • Gain necessary experience by developing your skillset and expanding your professional network. Position yourself for career success by investing in your future.

How to Find an Internship?

Start EARLY – Securing an internship that meets your career goals requires time. Put your best foot forward by starting your search a semester before you plan to partake in an internship experience.

  • Update your resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn to ensure your professional materials are positioned for success.
  • Schedule a 1:1 with Career Center Staff to explore options and map out a plan of action. The Career Center can also assist with interview preparation.
  • Attend Job Fairs and networking events on campus. This is a chance to speak with recruiters directly and explore internship experiences at their organization.
  • Leverage your network – Share that you are seeking an internship opportunity with your instructors, advisors, and mentors. They can be a connecting piece to your next opportunity!
  • Be patient and embrace a positive mindset for this process. You can do it!

Parker Dewey: Micro-Internships

When you are launching your career, finding ways to test out different industries or even get your foot in the door can be challenging, especially without having prior experience. That's where Micro-Internships can help. These short-term, paid, professional projects are open to all college students and recent graduates of U.S.-based institutions. From working directly with an entrepreneur to supporting a large enterprise, you'll have the opportunity to explore different roles and company cultures in a way that fits into your schedule.
